Based on the organization, classification and study of the relevant literature, this paper talks about the history or periods of ethnomusicological research on ritual music that had been conducted by English-language scholars, while at the same time also expanding on issues surrounding three theoretical dimensions. Spoecifically, it will show imporrtant actual case studies and theoretical approaches in the field by English-language scholars from the year 1980 onwards from the following three perspectives – ritual music and multiple historical evidence; ritual music and the construction of cultural history; and ritual music and contemporary cultural change.
