Abstract: Ritual music performed in the course of Taoist acts of faith give expression to Taoist music. Taoist music research that do not give full attention to the ritual environment and background is a one-sided research. Through the investigation of the mutual relationship of the structural elements and music of Taoist ritual, it can be seen that the role that music plays within the ritual is not subservient to the latter, but rather one that is interactive. Within the overall structure of the ritual, Taoist music has many other functions not even one part of which can be replaced.
