Foreword:

 Beginning with the Dao De Jing by Laozi and Daoism’s earlieast classic, the Taiping Jing , discourse about music in Taoist texts is not uncommon. It can be said that Taoists, Daoism and literati have been investigating the origins of Taoist music in both its broad and deep aspects for quite some time. However, the study of Taoist music as a relatively independent academic topic, and Taoist music as a distinctive traditional ethnic culture used for publicity and promotion, are recent developments that began in the 1950s and 1960s. The boom in the research onf Taoist music and culture was formed and became typical at the end of the last century and the beginning of the present one. Therefore, the contemporary Taoist music phenomenon discussed in this article was actually produced during the half century from the ‘50s and ‘60s of the last century until today.
